Product Description:
The last few years have witnessed the creation of new generations of sequence reading compounds, which have incredible potential for targeting specific DNA sequences. In “Drug-DNA Interaction Protocols, Second Edition”, expert researchers explore these compounds, revealing how a deeper understanding of the structure of DNA, along with an improved ability to manipulate it, has led to much progress in recent years. Chapters describe a new arsenal of techniques for probing the interactions between drugs and DNA, including various biophysical techniques for quantifying these interactions and for describing them in molecular and atomic detail, and they comprehensively consider both molecular and cellular approaches. Composed in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format, each chapter contains a brief introduction, step-by-step methods, a list of necessary materials, and a Notes section which shares tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls.
Authoritative and current, “Drug-DNA Interaction Protocols, Second Edition”, is a critical volume that includes a wide range of chapters, which together provide methods for assessing the strength and mode of binding, the sequence selectivity, and the effect on biological systems.

Recent critical advances in the field of immunotoxicology have led to incredible contributions to basic science, including crucial improvements in human risk assessment. In Immunotoxicity Testing: Methods and Protocols, expert researchers explore these changes, providing the reader with current, lab-ready procedures, along with the corresponding background information that is necessary to identify effective testing approaches for chemicals and drugs. Among the first volumes to meld consideration of immunotoxicity testing strategies with a comprehensive presentation of detailed laboratory protocols, chapters include a description of the evolution of immunotoxicity testing, a look at the importance of immunotoxicity testing for health risk reduction, and ideas concerning the future of the field. Composed in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology(tm) series format, most chapters contain a brief introduction, step-by-step methods, a list of necessary materials, and a Notes section which shares tips from the experts on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls.
Comprehensive and innovative, Immunotoxicity Testing: Methods and Protocols is a critical, one-stop reference resource for the most important and commonly used laboratory protocols in immunotoxicology.

Product Description:
With much of what we know about the pathogenesis of disease coming from the systematic and careful study of histological material, histology has proven to be an incredibly valuable area of study. In “Histology Protocols”, expert researchers in the field contribute detailed methods involving the preparation of tissue, providing an overview of fixation, embedding, and processing, along with the required techniques for the retrieval of RNA from histological sections, followed by sections on routine and specialist histological staining techniques, including immuno-, lectin, and hybridization histochemistry, histological staining, as well as specific methods for the in situ identification of hypoxia and apoptosis, and details on the advances in imaging and image analysis. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and notes on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls.
Authoritative and cutting-edge, “Histology Protocols” will provide molecular biologists with the basic histochemical techniques and histologists with the molecular techniques necessary to realize the potential of their resource.

Product Description:
The importance of chloride ions in cell physiology has not been fully recognized until recently, in spite of the fact that chloride (Cl-), together with bicarbonate, is the most abundant free anion in animal cells, and performs or determines fundamental biological functions in all tissues. For many years it was thought that Cl- was distributed in thermodynamic equilibrium across the plasma membrane of most cells. Research carried out during the last couple of decades has led to a dramatic change in this simplistic view. We now know that most animal cells, neurons included, exhibit a non-equilibrium distribution of Cl- across their plasma membranes. Over the last 10 to 15 years, with the growth of molecular biology and the advent of new optical methods, an enormous amount of exciting new information has become available on the molecular structure and function of Cl- channels and carriers. In nerve cells, Cl- channels and carriers play key functional roles in GABA- and glycine-mediated synaptic inhibition, neuronal growth and development, extracellular potassium scavenging, sensory-transduction, neurotransmitter uptake and cell volume control. Disruption of Cl- homeostasis in neurons underlies pathological conditions such as epilepsy, deafness, imbalance, brain edema and ischemia, pain and neurogenic inflammation. This book is about how chloride ions are regulated and how they cross the plasma membrane of neurons. It spans from molecular structure and function of carriers and channels involved in Cl- transport to their role in various diseases.
* The first comprehensive book on the structure, molecular biology, cell physiology, and role in diseases of chloride transporters / channels in the nervous system in almost 20 years
* Chloride is the most abundant free anion in animal cells. THis book summarizes and integrates for the first time the important research of the past two decades that has shown that Cl- channels and carriers play key functional roles in GABA- and glycine-mediated synaptic inhibition, neuronal growth and development, extracellular potassium scavenging, sensory-transduction, neurotransmitter uptake and cell volume control.
* The first book that systematically discusses the result of disruption of Cl- homeostasis in neurons which underlies pathological conditions such as epilepsy, deafness, imbalance, brain edema and ischemia, pain and neurogenic inflammation.
* Spanning topics from molecular structure and function of carriers and channels involved in Cl- transport to their role in various diseases.
* Involves all of the leading researchers in the field.
* INcludes an extensive introductory section that covers basic thermodynamic and kinetics aspects of Cl- transport, as well as current methods for studying Cl- regulation, spanning from fluorescent dyes in single cells to knock-out models to make the book available for a growing population of graduate students and postdocs entering the field.
